Mrs. Merle Davis, age 89, of Colquitt died Monday, March 5, 2018, at Seminole Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Cory Thomas officiating. Interment followed at Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rex Cook, Dole Cook, Jr., Vic Hill, Doug Lane, Mark Spooner, Allen Pearce, and Lanier Lane serving as active pall bearers.

Merle had been a longtime resident of Miller County. She taught school in the Miller County School System for 47 years. She obtained her Associates Degree from Andrew College in Cuthbert in 1947. She completed her Bachelors Degree from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia in 1957.

After retirement, she enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Colquitt, Georgia, where she enjoyed spending time with her Sunday School Class.

She was a member of the Donalsonville Garden Club, and the Georgia Retired Teacher’s Association.

She is survived by one daughter, Kaye (Glenn) Keebler of Panama City, FL; one grandson, Chad (Carol) Widner of Bainbridge; two granddaughters, Kim Ryan of Jesup, and Michele Natarajan of Charlotte, NC; and two great-granddaughters, Lilah and Callie Widner.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband, Hunter Davis; one grandson, David Keebler; parents, Clay and Lila Russell Lane; three sisters; and three brothers.

Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
