Fire Destroys Home


The home was a total loss. The home was a total loss. A call came in to Miller- Baker 911 last Thursday morning, March 7, 2018, at approximately 12:06 a.m. of a structure fire at 1899 Brinson Road in Colquitt. The caller stated that the structure was not fully involved at that time.

Miller County Fire & Rescue, Miller County EMS and the Miller County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, fire units set up an incident command post and did an interior attack to bring the fire under control. Pressure fans were used to remove smoke and gases from the home of Kirk Jenkins. The three in the family were at home when the fire was discovered.

The fire was reported under control at 1:19 a.m. and the last unit was cleared at 2:47 a.m.

At 6:03 a.m. Miller Baker 911 received another call from this location for a fully involved structure fire. Firemen were on the scene at 6:16 a.m. and confirmed the home was fully involved when they arrived the second time. Firefighters made all efforts to protect the surrounding exposures.

The fire was reported as being under control at 7:56 a.m. and all units returned to the station.

The cause was due to a fire starting in the clothes dryer.
