Clay Wells Named GCA and Decatur County STAR Student

Clay Wells, a senior at Grace Christian Academy, was recently named GCA’s Star Student and Star Student System Winner for Decatur County. Clay has attended GCA since K-3 and plans to study Finance at either the University of Georgia or Florida State University.

While at Grace, Clay has served as Student Body President for the past two years, and Student Body Vice President his sophomore year. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Interact. Clay earned the University of Georgia’s Certificate of Merit as a junior, and served in Decatur County Youth Leadership as a sophomore. He was chosen for GISA All-Select Chorus and his quartet team took second in state GISA Literary competition last year.

An accomplished athlete, Clay lettered in basketball, baseball, tennis, cross-country and golf. While at Grace, he won numerous individual and team sports awards, including GISA Boys Singles Region Champ in tennis and GICAA All-Region Honorable Mention in basketball.

Additionally, Clay has volunteered in numerous community service organizations including the Salvation Army, Rivers Alive, Special Olympics, and the local Nursing Home. Clay is an active member of Morningside Baptist Church where he has been involved in several mission and outreach projects. Having the opportunity to share his faith with others and seeing others come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior is Clay’s greatest accomplishment, but with this and all his other achievements, he takes very little credit. Clay lives for the Lord and gives all the credit to Him.

Clay chose Dorinda Cox as his Star Teacher. “Mrs. Cox greatly helped me in preparing me for all the standardized tests I had to take, and she is such a great teacher. She made my most difficult subjects easy to understand. I cannot say enough good things about Mrs. Cox,” Clay concluded.

Clay is the son of Jay and Rhonda Wells of Colquitt. He is he grandson of Jerome and Theresa Wells of Bainbridge, and Glenda Coalson of Moultrie and Duane Poitevint of Cairo. He has a sister, Caroline, and a brother, Cade. Both attend GCA.
