Miller County Young Farmers Host Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet

On Thursday night the Miller County Young Farmers hosted their annual Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet at the Birdsong Sound Stage. The banquet was attended by nearly 100 Young Farmer members and family. The evening began with a seafood meal followed by the awards portion. Miller County Young Farmer advisor Bert Bodiford served as master of ceremonies, and Young Farmer President Rod Bryan presented the awards to the recipients. The awards kicked off with recognition of sponsors of the Young Farmers. This year’s platinum sponsors were CPS, Birdsong Peanuts, 1st State Bank of Colquitt, Sun South Tractor and PeoplesSouth Bank. The Gold sponsor was Kelley Crop Insurance, and the Silver sponsors were Miller County Gin, Ameris Bank, Spring Creek Ford, Flint Ag and Sanders.

The Farm Family of the Year was awarded to the Mickey Henley Family. The Outstanding Member was Perry Hudson. Young Farmer of the Year was Kristen Traugh, and the Friend of the Farmer Award was presented to Kelley Crop Insurance.

The evening concluded with the induction of two members into the Miller County Agriculture Hall of Fame. Mr. Kelly Summers inducted Mr. Bobby Richardson. Mr. Summers had to choke back tears as he spoke fondly of his memories of Mr. Richardson and his contributions to Miller County agriculture and the community. Mr. Richardson’s family was on hand to receive his Hall of Fame plaque. Up next was the induction of longtime Miller County Young Farmer Advisor Mr. Bobby Cox. Bill Spooner gave the induction of Mr. Cox and spoke fondly of their time together as ag teachers here in Miller County and re-lived adventures they shared during their careers here. The night ended as Mr. Bodiford recognized the Miller County Young Farmers officer board.
