It was Miller Time in Pirate Country!

BY: Glenda Bailey

The Miller County Pirates had a great night against the Baconton Blazers. The Miller County Pirates had a great night against the Baconton Blazers. Coach Brent Miller knew that after the game between Mitchell and Miller was a heartbreaker, his band of Pirates had to come back and play harder, and that is exactly what they did with a 40-0 winning game.

Captains for the night were Miller County’s #2 Tay Burney, Quarterback #10 Dylan Johnson, #50 Tucker Spence and #53 Rashaan Berry and for Baconton #3 Caleb Jones.

Offensive stats stand as this for the game: Miller County’s offense had a total of 319 yards with five touchdowns; JJ George had 12 carries for 127 yards with one touchdown; Chris Stovall had carries 6 carries for 39 yards with one touchdown; Jakobe Cooper had 7 carries for 50 yards and one touchdown; Titus Butler was 4 for 29 yards; Austin Dollar was one for one; William Stevenson was 2 for 2 for a total rushing of 32 for 246 yards with 3 touchdowns.

Everybody wants the ball! Everybody wants the ball! On the Passing side of the pig, Dylan Johnson was 3 for 9 for 73 yards with 2 touchdowns; On the receiving end of the pig, GJ Douglas went 2 for 32 yards with a touchdown; Cole Greene went 1 for 44 yards with 2 touchdowns; Extra point kicker Dylan Johnson went 4 for 6. Baconton’s offensive stats were in rushing 38 carries for 73 yards, one fumble lost; and in passing 1 for 4 with 14 yards.

During halftime, Baconton did not have a band to perform, so our award-winning Miller County Pirate Pride Marching Band performed. The band is under the direction of Ms. Holly Thomas, and the field direction is under Drum Major Adre’ana Etheredge. Band captains are Arwen Anderson and Sydney Thomas; Color Guard captain is Zykierra Bush, and the co- captains are Taylor Faulkner and Robin Spence. The musical performance this year is called “Movie Theme,” featuring Star Wars, Incredibles, and Frozen. Also the fans got to see Darth Vader as he came out to the Star Wars musical theme.

The Pirate and Darth Vader in a duel. The Pirate and Darth Vader in a duel. Again, our Miller County Lady Pirate Cheerleaders did an excellent job of keeping the fans up on their feet, cheering for our football team as well as our band. Where would a football team be without cheerleaders and where would our cheerleaders be without a band? It was a great performance on the field, on the side lines, and in the stands by all of our students and spectators.

Next week the Pirates will take a road trip up into Hornet Country as they set sail to play against the Pelham Hornets. Make sure everyone takes plenty Hornet spray, so we won’t get any stings. Game time is at 7:30 p.m. Once a Pirate; Always a Pirate!

Come on and give me some help! Come on and give me some help!

Come on and lets go to the end zone, It don’t hurt as band if you are winning! Come on and lets go to the end zone, It don’t hurt as band if you are winning!
