Daniel Allen and six other students from Georgia Southern University’s Southern Eagles Archery (SEA) Club traveled to Harrisonburg, Virginia, to the campus of James Madison University for USA Archery’s National Outdoor Collegiate Championships on May 21-24, 2015. The Eagle Nation was joined by 254 archers from 34 different colleges and universities throughout the nation, including two other Georgia institutions: Georgia Tech and Emmanuel College. This was the debut year for USA Archery’s Collegiate Archery Program.

The tournament consisted of a double qualification round, or two 720 rounds, followed by head-to-head eliminations. Southern Eagles Archery took three female barebows (Rachel Luoma, Kimberly Hayes, and Kaitlin Crabtree), one male barebow (Daniel Allen), one female open compound (Harley Kitching), one female Olympic recurve (Cassandra Pelton), and one male Olympic recurve (Cameron Feriante). As such, SEA was also able to participate in Mixed Team rounds for Olympic recurve and barebow and Official Team rounds for female barebow.

Daniel and Rachel took the silver medal in Mixed Team barebow. Daniel also took silver in the Male Barebow division after shooting a personal best during the qualification rounds. Also, Cassandra Pelton took bronze in Female Olympic Recurve. The Georgia Southern team also took home a variety of other medals, including All- Region and All-American Honors for Daniel. Congratulations to all those at Georgia Southern, and good luck to Rachel, Cassandra, and Daniel as they travel to Decatur, Alabama in July for USAArchery’s Outdoor Nationals, one of the biggest tournaments in the nation.
