One injured in semi truck accident

On Tuesday, July 15, a call came in to E911 that an accident had occurred with injuries on Mayhaw Road and Dead End Road. Miller County Sheriff’s officers, Miller County Ambulance and Colquitt/Miller Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the scene.

J.D. Norton, 72, of Cairo was driving a 2010 Kenworth T660 Tractor Truck semi loaded with logs.

The driver was traveling on GA 273, Mayhaw Road negotiating a left curve. The driver said his truck began to pull hard to the right causing his vehicle to travel off the highway. Norton’s truck traveled off the right side of the road and into a ditch. The truck continued to travel west and struck a ditch culvert, causing Norton’s load of logs to shift. When the logs shifted, the vehicle overturned onto its left side.

According to the driver, he kicked out the windshield and exited the cab of the overturned semi. He was wearing his seat belt.

He was treated at the scene by ambulance personnel, and he was walking around when the Sgt. J. Vanlandingham Jr. of Georgia State Patrol Post 14, Colquitt, was investigating the crash.

The semi was removed by wrecker service due to damages.
