Toddler Time

Join Ms. Taryn on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at 3:30 p.m. at the Miller County – James W. Merritt, Jr. Memorial Library for Toddler Time. This is an interactive storytelling event for children ages 18 months – 3 years old. There will be stories, songs, games, fun, and more! The stories that will be told have short text and large colorful pictures. Toddler Time lasts approximately 20 – 30 minutes. This is a great way to introduce your child to the library and for them to develop a love of reading and learning. Please call the Miller County – James W. Merritt, Jr. Memorial Library at 229.758.3131 for more information on Toddler Time.

Books with Beat

Celebrate Teen Read Week from Monday, October 18 - Saturday, October 23, 2010, at the library! This year’s theme is “Books with Beat,” which encourages teens to read a variety of materials, including poetry, audiobooks, and books about music. In celebration of Teen Read Week, we will be playing Guitar Hero: World Tour on the Nintendo Wii at the Miller County – James W. Merritt, Jr. Memorial Library on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at 4 p.m. This program is designed for ages 10—18.

Parents can celebrate Teen Read Week at home, as well. Parents can set aside time each night for the entire family to read, or parents can share their favorite book with their teen. Another idea is give books or magazine subscriptions to your teen as a gift or reward. Teen Read Week is held annually during the third week of October. For more information on the national celebration, please visit www.ala.org/ teenread.
