Mrs. Patricia Ann Simonton Roland, 70, of Colquitt died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Roland was born February 23, 1938, in Thomaston, the daughter of Essie Kate Darby and Garland Gray Simonton. She resided in Thomaston until she graduated from Thomaston High School in 1956. She then moved to Atlanta and worked in the governor's office in the Capitol where she met her future husband, Billy Gray Roland Sr., of Colquitt. They were united in marriage on March 7, 1962, at the United Methodist Church of Marietta. They resided in Athens until 1988 when they moved to Statesboro. They resided there until they settled with their family in Billy's hometown of Colquitt in 1974. Mrs. Roland retired from the Miller County Department of Family and Children Services with 30 years of service in 1998. She was a member of the Colquitt United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher. She also introduced the Acolyte Service that still exists today.

Survivors include her husband, Billy Gray Roland Sr., Colquitt; one son, Billy Gray (Gina) Roland Jr., Blakely; three daughters, Caroline (Jimmy) Raines, Colquitt, Darby (Tabb) Godfrey, Albany, Elizabeth Roland, Buford, SC; mother, Essie Kate Simonton, Colquitt; six grandchildren, Julianne Raines Pollock, Ansley Raines, William Calhoun Raines Jr., Wiley Roland Godfrey, Garrett Charles Roland, Billy Gray Roland III; three greatgrandchildren, Nicholas Alexander Pollock, Jospeh Shane Pollock, Brooklyn Raines Pollock; two nieces, Kelli Lynn Stanyard and Patricia Kate Robins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Garland Gray Simonton and one sister, Claudette Lynn Banke.

Colquitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
